Trash Hauler Recycling Service Question

6 Apr

Some residents have recently asked whether the association is considering switching the preferred trash hauler vendor, Rumpke, as they no longer provide recycling.  Waste Management still provides a rolling recycle tote with recycling service.

RECI did evaluate moving to a different preferred hauler this year in response to Rumpke’s change.  We ultimately decided not to change this year, because we are anticipating that all of the haulers will ultimately adjust their recycling offers due to changes in the global recycling market.  We are concerned about putting all of our residents through the process of switching trash hauling companies only to find that in 6 or 10 months, the new hauler changes their recycling policy.  We will review the situation again next year; our expectation is that by then, things should have settled down and we can make a better long term decision.  However, RECI wants to hear from residents that feel strongly about having a recycling option. 1. I prefer to stay with Rumpke. They have a senior rate, not many do. I changed from Waste Management and do not want to go back. I believe in recycling, but can find other options for that. Rumpke has a better price.

  2. Rempke is unreliable, specially during winter months. I am disabled, they frequently do not empt my entire can and at least 3 times a year I call and complain about them leaving my lid open. They want YOU to close the lid, but they don’t realize when it rains water and snow get inside. I have back issues and it is hard to turn that can upside down. Last call I had to them I told them if this continues I was going to complain to my home owners association. Sometimes you bring you can out and I try to leave it where they can get to it but they won’t make an effort to drag it out of the snow. I’m not satisfied.

  3. Joyce Hannum has noted that Bainbridge residents can take their paper/cardboard and plastic bottles & cans to the recycling center at the Service center on Haskins rd.  They won’t take glass and other plastics but it is free and reduces what goes into the landfills.  Open 24/7 so you can stop on your way to somewhere else.

    • The HOA brought up the recycling with Rumpke during the rate negotiations. Rumpke has said they would take that into consideration for next year. Hopefully, they will offer it again.
