Bainbridge Township’s clean-up days are upcoming on Friday May 3 and Saturday May 4 from 7:30am to noon at the Service Department on 17800 Haskins Road. You can dispose of various types of items by taking them to the Center on Haskins Road. Please see the attached notice for details.

If you are a senior over the age of 60 and cannot bring your items to the service department Bainbridge Township is partnering with the Geauga Department of Aging to offer free pick up of 10 items or less on April 29, 30 and May 1.  Seniors must register no later than April 22 with the Geauga Department of Aging for the free pick-up.  Details are in the attached notice.

Also, please note that Bainbridge residents can take their paper/cardboard and plastic bottles & cans at any time to the recycling center at the Service Center on Haskins Road.  They won’t take glass and other plastics but it is free and reduces what goes into the landfills.  Open 24/7 so you can stop on your way to somewhere else.

Recommons Website Security and Reliability

6 Apr

We take the security and reliability of the Recommons.org website seriously to meet the high standards and expectations of the Rivers Edge Community and to ensure your safety and privacy at the website.  Here are several of the measures we take to make that so:

  1. We use an industry-standard web platform. Our site is built on WordPress, which is one of the most widely used Content Management Systems (CMS) for building content-rich websites.  It enjoys wide support, and as with other enterprise-class software, quickly releases regular security updates to fix any security vulnerabilities as they are identified.
  2. We use a reliable web hosting provider.  Recommons.org is hosted at BlueHost, which is one of the oldest and most reliable web hosting providers.  They have consistently received high marks for reliability and service in reviews.
  3. The Recommons website uses SSL encryption (as of April 2019).  SSL is an encryption technology which ensures that any data transferred between your browser and the website remain impossible to read. It uses encryption algorithms to scramble data in transit, preventing hackers from reading it as it is sent over the connection. You will notice that the web link starts with https://, which indicates that it is using SSL. Thus any information you send (for example to a login page) cannot be read in transit.
  4. All content is regularly scanned for viruses.  We use an industry-standard service that automatically scans all content and links at the site for malware daily.  Any content or link that is suspect is identified and quarantined.  In addition, the scanning service also performs other scans regularly such as a network scan for any vulnerabilities.
  5. We use PayPal for Online Dues Payment. When you pay your membership dues by credit card, you are transferred out of the Recommons website to PayPal’s secure payment portal.  No credit card or banking information is ever collected or stored at the Recommons web site.
  6. Pages with sensitive information require login.  While several pages of the Recommons website are open to the public, pages that contain information on residents (such as the members page) require a login.  This prevents scammers from getting information on our residents.  All registration requests at the website are held for approval until we can verify that the request is from a legitimate resident of the Rivers Edge Community.  Of course, online Dues Payment requires additional PayPal registration and login.
  7. We do not share information on users.  No user information, such as your email address or physical address is shared or otherwise made available to external parties, other than your name and address to our approved vendors only for membership discounts.

If you have any questions or comments on the security at our website, we’d like to hear from you; please leave a reply to this post below (requires a login).

Trash Hauler Recycling Service Question

6 Apr

Some residents have recently asked whether the association is considering switching the preferred trash hauler vendor, Rumpke, as they no longer provide recycling.  Waste Management still provides a rolling recycle tote with recycling service.

RECI did evaluate moving to a different preferred hauler this year in response to Rumpke’s change.  We ultimately decided not to change this year, because we are anticipating that all of the haulers will ultimately adjust their recycling offers due to changes in the global recycling market.  We are concerned about putting all of our residents through the process of switching trash hauling companies only to find that in 6 or 10 months, the new hauler changes their recycling policy.  We will review the situation again next year; our expectation is that by then, things should have settled down and we can make a better long term decision.  However, RECI wants to hear from residents that feel strongly about having a recycling option. Please use the comments section below to provide feedback (requires login).
